BIO

Patrícia Maseda Calamita (Girona -Spain-, 1977) holds a Bachelor’s Degree in History of Art from the University of Girona (UdG) as well as a Master’s Degree in Communication and Criticism of Art.
Her artistic path with sculpture begins in 2014, when she starts working with paper and cardboard to develop volumes which have evolved from abstract forms to her own figurative style. Since 2016, she participates in solo and collective exhibitions in several museums and Art spaces all over Catalonia, mainly in Girona and Barcelona, and international in Greece.
Her so-called “imaginary volumes” sculptures are the result from her work based on the discovery of the forms that the folds of paper draw in the mind of who observes them.

ARTIST STATEMENT

The choice of paper as a material to create sculpture arises from the artist’s work with cardboard which subsequently evolves into some forms and a figurative style of its own. Made from fragile and ephemeral material such as cardboard and paper, the sculptures integrate bases and supports of different materials and are inspired by themes which evoke the classical culture as the mythologies of the ancient world, especially the Greek one, concepts of philosophy and symbology, among others.
The experience of modelling the material with hands allows feeling the texture and observing the transformation of the material in a chaos of folds which finally acquires meaning. The paper and cardboard used in the creative process is presented without modifications or artifice.
